YOU SHOULD BE A STAR
Many ministries are getting in full swing again as the Fall approaches. In the Creative Arts Ministry at my church, there are many opportunities for people to get involved. The commitment level varies from once a month to twice a week. I have been encouraging everyone to find a way to be a part of what God is doing in the arts.

When it comes to ministry we tend to shy away from using words like "performance" and "show." because it makes it seem like we are no different than the secular world. I agree that we need to be very careful to make sure we understand that the focus is on Christ - not on us, but just because you say, "I'm not performing, I'm ministering" does not make it true.

Jesus said in His most famous sermon, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." (Matthew 5:14-15) We are on stage. We are up front. We, in a sense, put on a show. Now least you are getting out your rotten tomatoes to throw, let's go further in the passage...

"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (verse 16) The show we put on, the reason we are on stage is to point people to God. Our performances reflect God. Will everyone watching that performance see it as a reflection of God? Maybe not, but as the performers we must be true to what Jesus said.

If someone looks at the beauty of the night sky and only comments on the stars and not who created them, it does not change the fact that those same stars are declaring the glory of God to the world. (Psalm 19:1) So go out there and use your gifts. Find a place to shine.
