TO PLAN OR NOT TO PLAN
How much planning do you do to coordinate a service? I plan the worship services at our church at least 2 weeks in advance. For special services we plan well in advance. But how does God plan? Does He expect a certain number of rehearsals and meetings in order for the event to go as planned.

This past week for our Sunday morning service, my pastor requested 2 songs for our soloists that fit in with what he was going to preach. One of the songs, someone had sung before and the other I was not sure if any had it prepared. Fortunately the soloist scheduled for this Sunday was someone who I could call about doing the second song and I knew he would be willing to work it up. When I e-mailed him the response was that he had that song worked up, he had the CD track and the song he originally picked he was not comfortable with yet. Isn't God good? It turned out to be a really good service and people responded well to the singing as well as the message.

So... is the moral to the story - Don't plan ahead - Let God do what He will? Is that the way to live life as well? Don't plan ahead - Let the chips fall where they may? (Is that bad to use a gambling cliche'?) It seems all things in life come back to balance. We do make plans. We plan according to what we understand to be in line with God's will and then we are willing to change those plans if God intervenes. I have a verse on my computer screen, it says, "We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps." (Proverbs 16:9) Here's another way to look at it. If I were taking a trip, I would know my final destination but as I was driving in the car the Navigator would tell me where to turn and how far to go because He holds the map and knows the route better than I. Who is really in control? I may be driving but without the Navigator, I would meander accomplishing nothing along the way.

BOTTOM LINE
ItŐs not the driver of the car that is truly in control - itŐs the One who knows the way.
