We saw the movie "The Nativity" last night as a family and what moved me most was thinking about what each of these people expected that first Christmas night. Many were looking for a Messiah that would deliver them from the state they were living, but few expected it to be in the form of a baby. Their deliverance would not come that night - in fact it would take 33 years before their Messiah would accomplish the will of the God the Father and then it would not be in a manner they expected. How many times to I expect God to do things in a way I understand and fits my personal needs? How many times am I disappointed because God takes into account ALL mankind and what is best for eternity. I am so short sided and seem to never get past myself and the miniscule world I understand and live in.
As we approach 2007, let's try to look beyond ourselves. I know we can never fully understand the mind of God but maybe focusing less on our small world and trying to see this world through the eyes of Jesus would change our expectations and allow us to get a glimpse of what God can see. Maybe we can gain a better understanding of His purpose and will and how we fit into them.

BOTTOM LINE
My expectations of God are not nearly as important as His expectations for me.
